IGCSE course
IGCSE Maths (Higher and Foundation Tiers)
Net School’s IGCSE Maths courses are taught by specialist teachers who are experienced in supporting every child to achieve their best results. Delivered through small, fully live, online classes, students on our courses have ample opportunity to ask and answer questions and can contact their teacher for extra support at any time. Furthermore, our classes are all recorded, so if they miss a class or want to revisit a particular topic, they can simply log on from their computer, tablet or even their phone to re-watch a lesson.
What will I be studying?
All students study the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Maths course (Specification A) at Higher or Foundation Tier.
How is this course examined?
Students normally take their exams for this subject after two years of study, sitting their exams in the summer term of Year 11. There are two written papers, each two hours long. Exams are taken at an exam centre local to you – we can advise on how to find a suitable centre.
What skills will this course help me to develop?
- Knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical concepts.
- Problem-solving in mathematical and non-mathematical contexts
- Mathematical reasoning skills – making deductions and drawing conclusions
- Confidence in communicating understanding and beliefs
How much time do I need?
Each week, students will have three hours of live, online teaching per week (split into two teaching blocks) and will be expected to complete around an hour of homework.
How will I know if I’m making progress?
Feedback is provided through discussion with the teacher during the live classes, close marking of homework and regular written reports. Students can also ask their teachers for help and advice by sending them a message at any time during the course. There are assessments at the end of each term to check the understanding of each topic and mock examinations in the spring term prior to sitting the IGCSE examinations.
How will my child be entered for a public examination, such as an IGCSE?
Edexcel and CIE both have centres around the UK where students can sit their examinations. Students based overseas may be able to sit their examinations at the offices of their nearest British Council or other suitable institution – both of the exam boards have further details on their websites:
Edexcel
Cambridge (CIE)
It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to enter a student for examinations and they are responsible for fees charged by the examination centre.
Can my child join part-way through the course?
Subject to there being a place available, we accept new enrolments to the IGCSE Maths course throughout the Autumn Term of Year 10. If you are interested in your child joining us at a later point in the course, please contact us to discuss the options available.

What our families say
“He has been asking for more since week 1! For a child who used to be absent from school at least two days a week for three years, you and your team have turned him 360 degrees. He enjoys the survival skills club and is looking forward to me taking him out in the desert to try them out.”
